My Hot Applejack Toddy recipe sponsored in March by LD Products Coupon SCOTT15!

I'm not feeling great this week so I'm making hot applejack toddies. Big ups to our LD Products coupon SCOTT15 that saves you 10% your print supplies.

Have you had Applejack? It's delicious. It was popular in Colonial America, but has been enjoying a comeback with the craft cocktail craze sweeping the nation! Laird's is the one you want, and might be the only one you can buy yourself, I'm not sure.

Applejack is essentially apple brandy, and that means it totally smells and tastes like apples even once it's all liquored up into brandy. Delicious way to keep that doctor away, if it counts as still healthy. (I think it should.)

Applejack was a well known "cyder spirit" throughout growing America. In the 1820’s, American evangelist John Chapman, better known as "Johnny Appleseed", preached to congregations along the Ohio River Valley, and distributed apple seeds to his followers.

He also instructed them in the production of Applejack- hence the continued popularity of Applejack in this region

  • • 1 lemon slice
  • • 2ounces Applejack (4 tablespoons)
  • • 1⁄4 ounce pure maple syrup (1/2 tablespoon)
  • • 1cinnamon stick
  • 1 whole clove
  •  1⁄4 ounce fresh lemon juice (1/2 tablespoon)

Shake vigorously in a cocktail shaker with ice.  Strain into glass and garnish with lemon slice.

  1. Press the clove into the lemon slice.
  2. Place the Applejack, lemon juice, maple syrup and cinnamon stick in a heatproof mug.
  3. Top with 3/4 cup boiling water and stir. Float the lemon slice on top.

The perfect Frisco Sour, thanks to LD Products Coupon SCOTT15 in March 2016!

Thanks to our LD Products coupon SCOTT15 that saves you 10% your print supplies, I'm going to teach you to make a great whisky drink in honor of Paddy's Day!

The thing about whisky drinks is the flavors have to be strong enough to stand up to the spice and solid taste of the whisky. I love Connemara whisky, but I probably wouldn't mix it into a drink because it's so good on it's own.

This one is delish, easy to make, and will help build up your liquor cabinet just a touch with a great spice liquor called Benedictine.

Benedictine is called that because it's made by monks. I think. Let me look it up, hang on. Ah, yes! Originally used to revive tired Benedictine monks beginning in 1510, the term D.O.M. found on the label stands for Deo Optimo Maximo which translates to "to God, most good, most great" reminds us of the liqueur's origins.
  • 2 ounces blended whisky
  • 1/2 ounce Benedictine
  • 1/2 ounce lemon juice
  • 1/2 ounce lime juice
  • lemon slice for garnish

Shake vigorously in a cocktail shaker with ice.  Strain into glass and garnish with lemon slice.

It's a lovely spicy brown color, and has a warmth from the whisky and the Benedictine that will keep you toasty on a cold night.

Probably more of a winter drink.

My favorite cocktail recipe courtesy of LD Products Coupon SCOTT15 in March 2016!

Let me tell you all about the St. Germain Gimlet — my favorite drink — courtesy of our LD Products coupon SCOTT15 that saves you 10% your print supplies.

I love a fun, not too complex, craft cocktail. Easy to make at home, fun to drink, that's the name of the game. The more you explore, you find new tastes, easy recipes, and most of all, deliciousness.

Let's start with something simple: just three ingredients, mixed in proportions that you're used to in most of your favorite drinks.  Two parts main liquor, one part liqueur or schnapps, and a half part citrus juice. Works for Cosmos, works for margaritas. And, so yummy, it works in the St. Germain Gimlet:

St. Germain Gimlet

2 parts vodka
1 part St. Germain
1/2 part fresh squeezed lime juice

Shake vigorously in a cocktail shaker with ice.  Strain into glass and garnish with lime peel or wedge.

Delicious, light, scrumptious. It's a delightful drink, and a beautiful color.
