Have you had Applejack? It's delicious. It was popular in Colonial America, but has been enjoying a comeback with the craft cocktail craze sweeping the nation! Laird's is the one you want, and might be the only one you can buy yourself, I'm not sure.
Applejack is essentially apple brandy, and that means it totally smells and tastes like apples even once it's all liquored up into brandy. Delicious way to keep that doctor away, if it counts as still healthy. (I think it should.)
Applejack was a well known "cyder spirit" throughout growing America. In the 1820’s, American evangelist John Chapman, better known as "Johnny Appleseed", preached to congregations along the Ohio River Valley, and distributed apple seeds to his followers.
He also instructed them in the production of Applejack- hence the continued popularity of Applejack in this region
- • 1 lemon slice
- • 2ounces Applejack (4 tablespoons)
- • 1⁄4 ounce pure maple syrup (1/2 tablespoon)
- • 1cinnamon stick
- 1 whole clove
- 1⁄4 ounce fresh lemon juice (1/2 tablespoon)
Shake vigorously in a cocktail shaker with ice. Strain into glass and garnish with lemon slice.
